OPI Black Spotted over Layla Metal Chrome

Hey All! Tonight I have a post for you with a special polish. Well, to me most polishes are special in their own way :) This one is a cousin of the shatter polishes and a part of the European OPI Spiderman collection- it's called Black Spotted. For those of the polish world you all know of Black Spotted. Love it, hate it, not sure about it. I have been through all those phases. I knew I had to have it though to give it a chance in person... it's how I roll :)  So onto ebay I went as I have no European connections in da polish blogging world (me the newbish blogger) and last week my OPI Black Spotted arrived :) Here is my first attempt at Black Spotted..onto the photo spam!

OPI Black Spotted, yes..I dipped my fingers in oil!

So, do my nails look the picture with the instructions?

I'll let you decide..

Thoughts on Black Spotted, do I love it, YES! It's awesome in an oily looking kind of way...it's so interesting. I was going for a blingy through the darkness look but I feel that because the Black Spotted doesn't "shatter" cleanly I got a bit of bronzish discoloration in the holes. I also think the size of the spottedness holes depends on the polish and as I had a majority of small ones I attribute this to the consistency of the Layla Metal Chrome. I can't wait to try this again over a few different polishes and see the results!

Love, meh or hate?

Layla Mirror Effect, stamped and glittered!

Good evening to you all, after posting the new Layla Mirror Effect polishes yesterday, today I decided to play around with the polishes and trying some mirror on mirror stamping and layering a few different glitters to see what looks I could create and if top coat took down the mirror effect.

A quick refresh of the Layla Mirror Effects colors below
Layla Mirror Effects
Does it bother anyone else that the lids don't all line up? LOL....and now onto the stamping.

On my left hand I tried a few combination of light colors over the supposedly darker ones and a dark color over the lighter ones.

Little finger has Titanium Sky over Black as Ebony.

So, from the stamping you can see that the mirror effects stamp reasonably well..putting all the colors together make the mani just look like a big hot mess and a muted one at that. The Metal Chrome stamps and looks pretty good over nearly anything. The Titanium Sky and Cosmo Lilac look good as well. The Black as Ebony looks pretty average in my opinion as either a stamp or base color. It is fast becoming my least fav color! Keep in mind that most of these Mirror polishes will look awesome over creme and darker polishes :)

My right hand got the glitter treatment with Mirror Effect polishes as a base..I contrasted a few and matched a few colors.

 Glitter Ahoy!

Ozotic 528 over Layla Mirror Effects
Cosmo Lilac with Ozotic 528 over it, the glitter looks embedded and disappears :( Don't recommend.

Metal Chrome with Nails Inc Electric Lane, adds that extra bling. This has Seche topcoat as well, so still darned blingy

OPI Last Friday Night over Layla Mirror EffectsOPI Last Friday Night
Titanium Sky with OPI Last Friday Night, I actually like this look better than just the Layla polish alone.

Kleancolor Silver star over Layla Mirror EffectsKleancolor Silver Star
Purple Diva with Kleancolor Silver Star, the holo stars look awesome.

Pahlish Total Eclipse of the HeartPahlish Total Eclispe of the Heart

Pahlish Total Eclipse of the Heart over Layla Mirror Effects
Red Hot with Pahlish Total Eclipse of the Heart over it. This looks great but mars the mirror effect a bit too much.

The glitters without flash and with flash.

As you can see some add and some detract from the Mirror blingyness :) Most of the top coats do dull the mirror effect of the Laylas but they are still plenty reflective. I really like Pahlish's Total Eclipse of the Heart, OPI Last Friday Night and Kleancolor Silver Star (although I had to go fishing for the stars!) over the Layla Mirror Effects as they brightening the overall look. The Mirror effects colors can be quite dull whilst blindingly shiny :)

Hope this helps you with choosing and using the Layla Mirror Effects. Let me know your thoughts :)

Layla Mirror Effects

Layla Mirror Effects have finally hit our shores, and I have a mini review of them and to show you the colors tonight. There are 8 shades in the latest of the Layla colors (they do have a thing with releasing polishes in eights) and most of the colors are what I would call muted or dusky shades. Some of them can look a bit same same in tone :( These polishes are a bit on the expensive end of polish prices with a retail price of $19.95 but they are usually worth the price for the awesomeness! On to the photo..now because I was super lazy I swatched one color per nail, hehe.
Warning, it may hurt your eyes to look at all the shinyness!

Layla Metallic Effects
From L-R, Metal Chrome, Cosmo Lilac, Pink Iron, Titanium Sky, Purple Diva, Red Hot, Metal Plum and Black as Ebony

The Layla Mirror Effect file that comes with the polish.

All the Layla polishes were applied after using the special Emery board to create a super shiny base. This polish is very unforgiving and shows up every ridge and imperfection. A shiny base coat should work, but I swatched with one coat over no base.

Layla Metal Chrome
Metal Chrome- Metallic Silver

Layla Cosmo Lilac
Cosmo Lilac- Light Pink Mauve

Layla Pink Iron
 Pink Iron - Medium Pink

Layla Titanium Sky
Titanium Sky- Light Silver Blue

Layla Purple Diva
Purple Diva- Light Purple

Layla Red Hot
Red Hot- Erm, Dark Mauve? (So not Red!)

Layla Metal Plum
Metal Plum - Metal Plummy color

Layla Black as Ebony
Black as Ebony -Gunmetal Grey
Okay, so the Mirror effects are very, very shiny and mirror like. I think I could see myself in my nails! I think I should have buffed my nails better with the Emery board or even did a proper nail buff before that to remove some ridges. The formula to apply was thin, and pretty good coverage with one coat, but 2 coats would have been better for finish effect.

The colors I loved- Metal Chrome, Pink Iron, Purple Diva and Metal Plum. Yes, only slight differences between some..I really liked how Silver the Metal Chrome turned out, I liked how soft the Pink Iron looked, I loved the purple as purple is always awesome and the Metal Plum I was surprised I loved but it grew on me alot and I think its awesome.

I was disappointed that the blue wasn't more blue and the Cosmo Lilac was a bit light for my liking. The black really wasn't that black, but more gunmetal, maybe another coat would have make it more pigmented. Red Hot was nice, but not really necessary considering the other colors.

Hope you liked the post, and I'll post some glitters and stamping with the Mirror Effect polishes tomorrow :)
